Proceed to Achanakmar (25 kms). Achanakmar is a lesser known wildlife getaway at foothills of Amarkantak bordering Madhya Pradesh. Achanakmar Wildlife Sanctuary is other end of Kanha-Achanakmar Tiger Corridor. The sanctuary is home Tigers, leopards, gaur, chital, striped hyena, jackals, the sloth bear, dhole, sambar, nilgai, four-horned antelope, chinkara, blackbuck, muntjak, Antilope cervicapra, Indian muntjac, and wild boar. Amarkantak :
Narmada Udgam - Amarkantak Situated at an altitude of 1065 mt. at the meeting point of the Vindhya and the Satpura mountain ranges, Amarkantak is a pilgrim centre for the Hindus, and is the source of the rivers Narmada and Sone. Narmada Udgam is a temple built at the source of the Narmada - the holiest spot in Amarkantak.
Dudh Dhara and Kapildhara Waterfalls - Dhdh Dhara and Kapil dhara waterfalls are two small waterfalls but attractive waterfalls near Amarkantak. Dudh dhara requires 1 km walk.
Maa Ki Bagiya - A garden at 5 kms from Narmada Udgam. Here some medicinal plants are cultivated and are on display alongwith a fruit orchard.
Achanakmar :
Wildlife and Bird watching at Achanakmar - Achanakmar lies on the Amarkantak - Achanakmar Biosphere Reserve Wildlife here comprise Tiger, Bison, Sambar, Barking Deer, Musk Deer etc. The are also has excellent birds in Winter (Oct - March). Jeep Safaris can be organised inside the area.
